What Is Restylane®?

Restylane® is a type of dermal filler made from hyaluronic acid, a substance found in the body. When injected into the skin, it helps to add volume and hydration, which can smooth out lines and give the skin a more youthful appearance. Restylane® works by binding to water molecules in the skin, which plumps up the area and reduces the appearance of wrinkles. It also stimulates the production of collagen, a protein that helps keep the skin firm and elastic. Over time, the collagen in the skin breaks down, leading to wrinkles and sagging. By stimulating collagen production, Restylane® can help slow down this process and keep the skin youthful.

Types of Restylane® Offered

Restylane®

This is the original Restylane® product used to smooth out moderate to severe skin folds, such as those around the nose and mouth.

Restylane® Lyft

Formerly known as Perlane, Restylane® Lyft is a thicker formulation that adds volume to the cheeks and midface.

Restylane® Kysse

This product is specifically designed for lip augmentation and is used to add volume and enhance the shape and definition of the lips.

Restylane® Refyne

The Refyne product is designed to smooth out moderate facial wrinkles and folds, such as those around the mouth.

Restylane® Defyne

Similar to Restylane® Refyne, Restylane® Defyne is used to smooth out moderate facial wrinkles and folds. It is formulated to provide additional support and flexibility for areas that require more movement, such as the nasolabial folds.

Restylane® Treatment: What to Expect

Restylane® injections begin with a consultation with one of our dermatologists, who will assess your skin and determine the best course of treatment. During the procedure, the Restylane® gel is injected into the targeted treatment areas using a fine needle – the particular product used and the amount used will depend on your needs and the areas being treated. The procedure is generally well-tolerated, and our medical provider will effectively numb the area to ensure maximal comfort.

Some patients may experience some swelling or bruising at the injection site that subsides within a few days. After the Restylane® procedure, patients can typically return to their normal activities immediately. Our medical providers recommend that you avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol consumption, and exposure to the sun or heat for at least 24 hours after your treatment. You must avoid touching or rubbing the treated area to reduce the filler's risk of infection or displacement.

Restylane® is a non-surgical cosmetic treatment that provides immediate results with little to no downtime. You can expect to see an improvement in the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and facial volume loss shortly after treatment. The results typically last six months to a year, depending on the treatment area and the individual’s metabolism. You may choose to undergo additional treatments to maintain your results over time.
